Pilot escapes by parachute when R.A.F. planes collide in mid air over Chadwell Heath. When two R.A.F. planes, both single seaters, collided in mid air over Chadwell Heath, Essex, one of the pilots, Pilot Officer Mackay, made a safe landing by parachute, his plane crashing on to a ploughed field near the Southend arterial road. It was completely wrecked. the other pilot made a safe landing. Both machines were attached to the 5th Squadron of the Royal Air Force at Hornchurch Aerodrome, Essex.
