CONEY ISLAND, N.Y. – The Pinta and the Santa Maria, the Graustark and the Balboa, five old aquaplanes of the former Airomarine Airways Corp., once passenger and mail planes flying between Miami and Nassau, were consumed by fire this afternoon since their usefulness is now extinct. The funeral pyre was witnessed by many famous aviators at Luna Park in the heart of Coney Island. In 1924 these planes were considered to be the best in aviation but progress in the mechanics of aviation sounded the doom of the ships. 5/18/31.
