PHOTO FROM WIDE WORLD PHOTOS: NEWINGTON, CONN…-740405 TWO FLIERS KILLED AS SHIPS CRASH IN AIR. NEWINGTON, CONN. - Two army airplanes from Mitchel Field collided in a terrific sideswipe 2000 feet above Newington, Conn.; today as they were swooping down to avoid an unidentified commercial plane that was speeding straight toward them. Two of the Army fliers were killed in the air, while the two others landed safely with their parachutes. The two men killed were: Lieutenant Benjamin F. Lowery, pilot and his passenger Corporal Harold Strosnyder. The occupants of the other plane who leaped to safety were Lieut. F.X. Kelly and Staff Sergeant David L. Spicer. The two planes were flying in formation with four other ships from Mitchel Field enroute to East Hartford when the crash occurred. 7/20/31 Photo shows the wreckage of the plane in which Lieut.
