Obergurgl, Tyrol (Austria). The Transport of the Piccard Gondola down to the valley proved to be a most difficult task. The night after the sheltering work was commenced some people - believed to the peasants of Obergurgl who greatly objected to have the Gondola removed, this being a geat attraction for tourists - pushed the Gondola into a 200 metres deep glen. When work was resumed the next day the Gondola had to be pulled out of this which afforded great strength and skill. After strenious work the Gondola arrived safely in Obergurgl where it was lifted on to a sledge and transported to Zwieselstein from where it has been brought by car to Innsbruck. From there it will be sent by rail to Bruxelles. Photo: the gondola being transported to Obergurgl, nearing the village. This part of the transport was not too difficult as the terrain was fairly even. [The New York Times] [Actualit]
