The training school at Halton is unique and has no prototype in the whole world. The Royal Air Force has one to three thousand young men there, who are training as aircraft apprentices to become artisans of quite a new type which has only been started in England. The apprentices belong to the Royal Air Force, and are taught all the technical work necessary for the maintenance and repair of aeroplanes and their engines, including armaments and other military equipment. When three years course is completed they are sent to squadrons of the Royal Air Force. In the event of war they will be of exceptional use to their country because they will be able to instruct new recruits to the R.A.F. in the practical and technique of aircraft repair. Cultural, scientific, and technical training, together with physical culture, these are some of the characteristics of the school which impress a visitor. During the past few years about 7,000 boys have received training.
