Captain of Shelled Spanish ship shakes hands with rescuer at Cromer. While a Trinity House vessel was locating his ship “Cantabria”, which had sunk in 15 fathoms off Cromer after a two-hour shelling by a Spanish Nationalist warship, Captain Manuel Arguelles, his wife and family were recovering at Cromer (Norfolk) from their ordeal. They were brought to Cromer by the lifeboat commanded by Coxswain Henry Blogg, only double lifeboat V.C., after their ship sank.
